This is "Amelia's Cabin". Back in 1846 Conrad Kollmeyer built this log cabin for his young bride, Amelia. Imagine how brave they were to start their lives together in Indian country, west of Fredericksburg. Amelia set up housekeeping within these very walls, and bore 4 children. By the census of 1860 Amelia was deceased.
I build this permanent cabin in her memory and to the memory of all the brave pioneers that made our lives possible.
Amelia's Cabin reflects the "homey-ness" and warmth that a pioneer house would provide. The atmosphere inside wraps around you like a soft blanket. The view from Amelia's SE facing window is just wonderful, and the huge walk in stone shower is a delight.
The "Little Houses of Valentine Hill" opened to the public in May of 2013. The quality of craftsmanship is something to behold in each of these darling little houses. Every care and thought was taken to produce a house that a German would have built (and German descendants DID build by hand!). From the first stake that was pounded into the ground, to the hand dug footings, every aspect was carefully taken to insure authenticity with a few modern conveniences. This little house offers a wonderful side porch with a wonderful view of the surrounding hills and the pasture below filled with horses. There is a community firepit that's a great place to hangout with a glass of wine or cup of cocoa and watch the evening stars. Wonderful Hill Country roads lined with wildflowers in season, Lavender festival early May, Wine tours all year long; many live music festivals, Historical museums, Trade days (antiquing) each month; Octoberfest, Main Street in the old German town of Fredericksburg, full of enticing shops, art walks/galleries, great restaurants, Enchanted Rock for climbing and breathtaking views. The Property of Valentine Hill offers 47.5 acres of beauty, majestic Live Oak trees, a year round flowing creek with broad bank, suitable for a great picnic, fishing; lovely breezes flow up through the valley and the morning and evening light on the trees and surrounding hills is feast for the senses.
