The settlement traces back to the 1600s and is the site of the first hydroelectric generating station in Newfoundland and Labrador, the Petty Harbour Generating Station. Today it is one of the province`s most photographed communities and a growing tourist destination, with fishing stages, colourful boats, and steep green hills wrapped around a narrow harbour.
