Our cottage has given such sweet memories to five generations. Built in 1948 by our grandfather it personifies the simplicity of the western end of Nantucket. Without a house in the way the views are expansive looking at Eel Point, Tuckernuck Island and Smith's Point.
Walk right out the door, across the yard, to the water. Enjoy all that Madaket Bay has to offer. Leave your kayak, canoe or stand up paddle all set up in the yard ready to go. Watch the boat "pass" as they go off for the day fishing. Dig for clams in the summer and catch scallops in the fall. And the beach plums are plentiful.
The interior of the cottage is filled with light from sunrise to sunset. The living room has an outstanding view of the water and evenings melt into the colorful sunsets. The kitchen is set up with all you need. Plenty of dishware and glasses. Pots and pans for all style cooking. Right down to the necessary lobster pot. The new Jenn -Air gas burner stove has an electric oven. The one appliance we never added is a dishwasher. We feel the clean-up is a fun process bringing our kids and grandkids together in the evenings. The dining room has a large sliding door and bay window at the other end which affords beautiful views of the garden and the water. The queen and twin bedrooms are very comfortably furnished with new mattresses and patchwork quilts. Both bedrooms have plenty of closet space and drawers for your clothing.
Outside there is a charcoal grill and a table nearby so you can dine Al Fresco. There are plenty of outdoor chairs to place around the yard or on the beach for cocktails or coffee. Enjoy the chaise lounges while reading or relaxing in the sun.
In the evenings, after enjoying the sunset, the stars are amazing as town's lights are off to the east and afford you a dark sky. If you are lucky enough to stay in August the meteor shower is quite a spectacle.
